Cyberark freelance security

Period: 2020 - NowSuccess: Success

Goal

The goal of freelance security is to be a freelance partner of enterprises regarding security. Right now, this is being used to survive the corona waves and to be able to eat. In the very long future I am thinking of creating a separate brand of company around security but only time will tell if Nacho security will ever exist in the future.

Reality

I was a consultant that was hired on the normal payroll. As I wanted to become more self-dependent wanted to become freelance so I could get my ideas out into the world.

Options

Stay as a pay-roll employee but then I could not move at the speed I wanted to move with.

Start your own business to get into a though position that might cause financial death if you have no clients.

Go into a world you have knowledge of as a freelance and you know is a niche market and try to find a CyberArk Partner to work with for extra-long term to eventually build your dreams.

Willingness

At some point in time, I was given opportunities to start this freelance job. I knew from all the previous companies I tried to start that if I wanted to do this, I had to work extremely hard to convince another company to hire me as a freelancer. Working 14 hours a day including weekends was something I was going to face until I found an actual client. The savings I had were only going to last 3 months, so it was all or nothing.

EVENTUAL OUTCOME

Eventually I landed with a partner called IS4U and signed a contract with them as a freelancer in 2020 just before Covid started. I think I have never been this lucky in my life as if I did not find this partner, I probably would not be writing this text, but I was going to be dead. The next months in Belgium after covid started were the most gruesome months I have ever seen for freelancers around me. No one was getting hired and a lot were getting fired for budget reasons. Until this day I am very happy because the freelancer world for enterprise is not: hey just call and you have a client

The freelancer world exists out of bigger companies that have consultants that have already established connections with bigger enterprises and have gained their trust. You must go through those agencies to land a job with a bigger enterprise. As covid started, and project got cancelled, enterprises were not asking for projects anymore, causing agencies to also stop asking for extra freelancers. The luck I had with finding this work within 2 months still baffles me to this day.
