Goal

Create a Cable that you can use to charge your phone with by using another phone as the source. The battery will drain from the phone with the most power.

Reality

If you were out of battery power on your phone and you had to call someone, you would need to use a phone of someone else. This would cause several problems as you wouldn’t have your contacts on the phone of the other person, you would leave behind the number of the person you called in the history and you would give access to a stranger using your phone.

Options

  1. Give the person your phone at risk of security
  2. Get a phone from a person but you would need to have your contacts memorized
  3. Share power between devices to make the call
  4. Charge your phone, but then you would need a usable outlet AND your charger with you at all times

Willingness

After doing research it was found that no product like this existed and I could have a good project here. A cable would have been very easy to make and cost efficient so creating a minimal viable product would be easier due to a constraint of funds.

EVENTUAL OUTCOME

After investing about 100 euros in this idea and going into a startup pitch of Samsung, one of the jury members of Samsung stated they invented the product 1 year ago. I had to take my loss here and learned a valuable lesson of doing market research is not just googling for half an hour but actually investigating something to the bone. Tronboy itself is currently a dead project. Product: https://www.samsung.com/uk/mobile-accessories/power-sharing-cable-micro-5pin-sg900/EP-SG900UBEGWW/ (link working 13/05/2021).
